Meet Dr. Rouweyha

Dr. Rajy Rouweyha is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and currently serves as Medical Director of the Nevada Donor Eye Network. At Nevada Eye Physicians, Dr. Rouweyha performs several procedures and treatments to correct cataracts and he is also certified in several areas of refractive and corneal surgeries. He is one of the first ophthalmologists in Nevada to be certified on the LENSAR femtosecond laser for the treatment of cataracts. With expertise in multiple categories of eye correction treatments, Dr. Rouweyha is able to provide efficient and effective diagnoses and procedure options for his many patients.

Skills and Specialties

Certified on multiple laser platforms for refractive surgery including Alcon Wavelight Allegretto, Zeiss Mel 80, Nidek EC-5000, Autonomous LADAR VISION Custom Cornea, B&L Technolas, B&L Zywave, VISX S4, and VISX CustomVue Excimer Lasers. Dr. Rouweyha also performs LASIK and PRK procedures for the correction of nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. His other areas of expertise include corneal surgery, as well as surgeries of the anterior segment including Intacs for keratoconus, corneal transplant surgery, DSEK, and pterygium surgery. In addition, Dr. Rouweyha is certified in conductive keratoplasty for presbyopia and the Locs II lens grading system for the classification of cataracts.

Education and Training

Dr. Rouweyha earned his bachelor’s degree in combined science from Youngstown State University where he graduated summa cum laude. He then obtained his medical degree at the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine in Rootstown, Ohio. His residency in general ophthalmology was completed at the prestigious George Washington University Medical Center in Washington D.C., where he received the Chief Resident Award. Dr. Rouweyha concluded his training at the Hermann Eye Center at the University of Texas Medical Center in Houston, TX where he completed a one-year clinical/research fellowship in cornea/external disease and refractive surgery. During his fellowship, he was named Outstanding Fellow of the Year. Dr. Rouweyha has been practicing at Nevada Eye Physicians since 2001.
